Who doesn’t like to smell good? I know I do! I think fragrances are a crucial part in reminisces. A scent can evoke a lost memory. It can take your back to your precious moments. Therefore, I am very particular when I am selecting fragrances. In today’s post I want to share how I select the perfect perfume for myself and how I utilize perfume, in hopes that these tips will help you as well.
Have you every noticed when you try a scent, that you absolutely love on someone else, isn’t the same on you? Well that is because scents can change from person to person. Perfume is something that should be sprayed on your skin, on your pulse points to be specific. The scent gets mixed in with your natural body oils and slightly changes the smell of the perfume. Now perfume lasts longer, when applied to hydrated skin and depending on what kind of moisturizer you used prior to putting on a perfume, it can also modify the scent. So then, how do you pick your perfect scent? I recommend starting at Sephora, or other places that give out samples. Ask for a sample of the scent you like. Layer that scent with your daily moisturizer. Apply it to your pulse points such as wrist and ears. Do not rub it in, just spritz onto your skin and let it air dry. Wear that scent for a day or two. If you still like how it smells on you then, that is a scent that is compatible with your natural body oils.

Perfumes are expensive, especially when they smell amazing and are long lasting. Therefore, you want to buy the right size. Perfumes also expire so you don’t want to hold onto them for years and years. You can stretch their life by keeping them out of the light, and storing them in a cool place. I personally think everyone should have a signature scent, the scent you wear daily. The signature scent bottle should be full size because of course you wear it all year round. Other than that you should have one ounce bottle for things that you wear occasionally. You don’t need tons of different scents in your collection. In fact, the less you have the better it is. I think three to four bottles at a time are more than enough. Once you run out you can always try something new or repurchase but having too many perfume bottles that don’t get used often will spoil when not used in the recommended time frame.

As I mentioned earlier scents are special and can take you back in time. For example, when I went to France, I wore Versace bright crystal every single day for the 7-8 days we were there. Now whenever I smell it, I think of France. This is something I discovered accidentally. I have always heard that smells can rewind time, but I didn’t think a single perfume could do that. I took the same perfume with me to Italy however, it doesn’t remind me of Italy. That is when I realized the power of scents. Since, I wore it in France first and had already associated the country with it. That same perfume doesn’t recall Italy. Therefore, I highly recommend picking a specific scent and associate it with major events in your life that you want to remember such as a wedding. Through out all of your wedding events including the day of, pick a scent and stick with it. Wear that same scent thought out all the wedding events. And in the future whenever you smell it, I promise you it will remind you of your wedding.
Next time when you are in the market for a new perfume, try my suggesting before committing to a full size bottle. All the best!
