People often think of home making as a mundane lifestyle, which it can be if you are not utilizing your time properly. No matter what you do in life or where you are, one should always have goals and ambitions. The beauty of being a homemaker is that you have a blessing to explore your interests, learn new skills, and widen your horizons at your leisure. That being said, it is crucial that you hold yourself accountable for aiming to reach your goals to avoid being “bored”. Today, I want to share seven things that I think everyone should incorporate in their lifestyle, especially homemakers.

1. Have Goals
“You are never too old to dream and dream big”. Having goals and ambitions can combat lack of productivity and feeling inadequate. It is important to have short-term and long-term goals. Often time doing the same tasks over and over can leave you feeling insufficient, therefore, it is important to have short-term goals that can give you gratification in a short period of time to keep you motivated to reach the long-term goals. This also allows a person to “live” rather than waiting to see what the day brings. There is noting wrong with being spontaneous (ever so often), however, structure is important as well.

2. Knowledge is Power
Nowadays, our curiosity is easily quenched since we can simply google answers to our questions, right at our fingertips. However, it is important to educate yourself, learn something new everyday. This will not only allow you to gain knowledge but retain that information and perhaps be introduced to a new perspective. Therefore, acquiring knowledge is essential.
There are many ways you can gain knowledge, such as books, documentaries, case studies, educational videos, and news/papers. Everyone has a different learning style, however, it is best if information is received with a combination of listening, reading, and hearing to be most effective. Find you learning style, and expand your knowledge.

3. Read…Read…Read
Reading has always been challenging for me. I have always been impatient and intimidated by lengthy texts. I have read books backwards simply because I would get bored in the middle of the story or impatient and would jump to the ending. Later, I would go back, to figure out what led to that ending, to a point where I gave up reading for pleasure all together. Recently, I have found books that I can relate to or stories that keep my interest. I have also trained myself to enjoy books for what they are instead of skipping to the end. I personally like to read actual physical books instead of using electronic devices. Stories are a great way to leave your worries and world behind while experiencing the world through someone else’s time, vision, struggles, happiness, and a whole array of emotions. Even if you only have five minutes to spare, use it on reading.

4. Create your own happiness
It is important to find a hobby that you enjoy doing and it is only for you. Even if it is sitting with a tub of ice-cream in front the TV, getting a dose of celebrity gossip. It isn’t an ideal hobby, but no one is judging. The only condition is you cannot have guilt about it later. Your hobby should bring joy to your life, something you look forward to. If it is something that brings in extra cash, such as freelance makeup artist, photography, crafting, etc, that is even better.

5. Take care of yourself
Whether you are a career oriented person or running a household, it is important to take time out for yourself and listen to your body. In order for us to fulfill our responsibilities, it is important to take care of ourselves so we can perform our duties efficiently. Our bodies take up a lot of beating whenever we are experiencing ups and down. It is vital to do some sort of exercise that will get your heart pumping while removing toxins via sweat.
If you are someone who enjoys eating comfort food, try to swap one of your meals with raw vegetables and a lean protein, or something that is healthy and is good for the body and the mind.
While you are working hard earning or taking care of your family it is important to take care of yourself as well. Stay hydrated! Your hands shouldn’t give up how hard you have been working. If you are not into skincare, do the absolute minimum; apply lotion to your entire body and sun block when you step out of the house.

6. Have a Routine
Having a routine is a necessity! You absolutely need to have one. It might take some time, trial and errors for you to find your perfect routine but creating one is essential. If you are afraid of have a repetitive, dull, mind-numbing schedule, have one chunk of your day dedicated to something that stimulates your brain, learn something challenging, take on an adventure. If you’re a coffee enthusiasts, try to find local coffee places around your area and discover your favorite one. Volunteering is another option to put your time to good use. Doing so allows you to feel accomplished and productive.

7. Socialize
When you are at home most of the day, finding creativity becomes a challenge. It is important to find people that you can talk to, community that you have something in common with. individuals you can relate to, bond with, and create friendships with. Nonetheless, it is equally important to be surrounded by people who come from different walks of life, this will allow you to see different point of views, people who can show you things from a different angle. As a result, it will keep you grounded and appreciate what you have as well as provide you with inspiration, and perhaps feed you creativity.

I hope adopting and making these changes in your lifestyle will help you on your journey to be a productive homemaker as they have helped me. All the best!
